Things I did this weekend that I got from Pinterest:

1. Cleaned/scrubbed microfiber sofa

2. Spray painted wood rocking chair

3. Started bench/cubbies/hooks for entry wall

4. Replaced nonfat Greek yogurt for sour cream in recipe

5. Zucchini fries and sweet onion dip appetizer for a party

6. Party outfit

(ok, honesty corner, i did this like a million weekends ago, but still...it was all in one weekend and useful things i wanted to share)

Art City Austin and Kid's Block: this weekend!

We just returned from Art City Austin art festival downtown. It was super cool and I'd definitely recommend going. Tons of artists from around the country showcasing their art for sale on Cesar Chavez Street and 1st Street Bridge. Pretty views of Town Lake. Beautiful day for walking around with the kids in the stroller. 

PLUS - they have an interactive kid's block, where local organizations host a variety of art projects and activities for the chilluns to enjoy. Scarlett painted a rock!! And played with life size foam puzzle pieces, which was pretty neat. 

While I would have loved to buy a painting that was well out of my price range, I scored two reasonably priced but very unique and beautiful pieces of jewelry from Austin artist, Edson Enriquez, of Limbo Jewelry. If you can't make it to the art fest this weekend, you can find his awesome designs in his showroom at 305 East 5th Street or buy online.

Happy Easter!

(A few days late. Obvs. But let's be honest, I've never been on time for anything.)

We spent Easter in east Texas where David's grandparents live. Pete and Opal enjoyed seeing their great-grandchildren while I experienced my first home-made fried chicken, which was amazingly delicious!

Scarlett found exactly ONE egg in the community Easter egg hunt, and was quite confused by the whole experience. I, for one, was surprised (but thankful) she wasn't running around grabbing eggs out of other children's baskets. Maybe (most likely) next year.

I attempted to color eggs, but only got so far as hard-boiling them. Whoops! Maybe (most likely not) next year.

But let's focus on what the holiday is really all about...dressing your kids up in Easter outfits. Scarlett wore a j.crew crewcuts floral dress and Tripp wore his first big boy outfit, a babygap collared button down and khakis. Loved em both!

apparently i was lying about SXSW

Remember when i said i wasn't going to any sxsw events and was lamenting being an enormous pregnant lady stuck on the couch? 

well, that changed! 

Background: i haven't cried at all since leaving San Francisco and moving here, but the inevitable emotional breakdown came on friday provoked by torrential downpour, thunderstorms and cabin fever with a 20 month old. "i'm so uncomfortable, i'm can't do anything, i feel worthless! I want this baby out! but having the baby means I'll have to actually take.care.of.a.newborn and that's hard! I don't think I can handle TWO babies! I miss my mom friends in SF! I have no mom friends here! I'm lonely! I even miss WORKING!" wah, wah, wah, lots of tears and leaving crying messages on friends' voicemails...

After that little pity party, Maux said i had to be her guest at the Texas Style Council fashion blogger event on Saturday night. Clearly, she knew I was in some desperate need of adult interaction! But, I was nervous and hesitant to go because a) i'm not a fashion blogger and b) nothing fits me to present myself in front of famous fashion bloggers! What's a girl to do?

I texted Maux this pic as I was getting ready: animal print sweater dress ok? 

it was pretty much my only option. either this or a black jersey dress from target. 

i went with the bolder choice. and like always, was very happy I did. 

We ended up having such a great time! it was fantastic people and fashion watching, great company sponsors, photobooth pics, drinks (lemonade iced tea for me), and we met a lot of cool bloggers. Plus, did you know that the best conversation starter is a huge 9-month pregnant belly?! And it was a perfect happiness/confidence boost getting fabulous compliments from strangers after a crying fest the day before. 

Today we are off to the conference/workshop to learn from famous bloggers such as indiana's adored austin and kendi everyday. so excited!

three product make-up routine for the busy mamma

since there is barely time to brush my teeth in the morning with Scarlett running around, putting on make-up has become a seriously low priority. but then i'd catch some glimpses of myself in the windows or bathroom mirrors and be horrified by my lackluster pale complexion mixed with red spots and tired eyes. blah! so now i've recently stepped it up a notch by putting on a little makeup in the morning.  i've dwindled down my make-up routine to using only three products for time efficiency. it is so fast and easy, plus makes me look (and feel) about a thousand times better (slash not like a zombie mom) that it's worth the 30 seconds it take to apply! and i seriously don't feel like i need to use anything else. it lasts all day too! when david comes home after i've had a full and exhausting day with Scarlett, he still says i look pretty, so that's good enough for me! try it, you'll like it!

3 product make-up routine:

1. You Rebel Tinted Moisturizer by Benefit

provides three steps in one: great tinted coverage, good moisturizer that isn't greasy, and SPF 15! how could you ask for more? available in regular and lite shades. if i'm really in a hurry this is all i'll put on. it covers redness, pimples and dark eye circles easily and evenly. it's expensive though. i normally wouldn't pay $30 for a moisturizer, but i tried my friend meghann's and it was truly amazing. i forked over the dough and have not been disappointed. in fact, i LOVE it!

2. Colossal Volume Express Mascara by Maybelline

seriously triples your lashes in volume and length. make my eyes stand out, incredible difference with and without it. sometimes i like to put it on one eye first for a second and can't believe the difference. doesn't smudge, lasts all day. available in regular and waterproof. i've tried both and prefer the regular. and it's really inexpensive, available at your local drugstore. bonus!

3. Benetint Rose-Tinted Lip and Cheek Stain by Benefit

i used to be very skeptical of this product. it comes in a nail polish bottle but i put it on my face? i just didn't quite get it. but now i'm a convert and i'm obsessed. two little dabs on each cheek, rub in on cheek bones and upwards with finger tip like you would apply blush. it's the perfect color, it stays all day long, does not come off on your cell phone or clothes, and adds the perfect little bit of cherry apple brightness to your cheeks that sleep-deprived mammas need (desperately). you can put some on your lips too for a little color. just make sure you wash your hands immediately after because it will leave a stain on your finger tips. it comes in posietint (poppy color) and chachatint (mango color) as well. I've tried those shades too but prefer the original rose tint the best, seems the most natural i think, and smells like delicious roses. again, this is more expensive than i usually like to spend on makeup, but a teeny tiny bit goes a long way so it seems like this bottle will last me forever!

leopard print toms

i spotted these today on a woman in starbucks...

oh my. i want!

after staring at her shoes with a little bit of drool hanging down my chin for upwards of ten minutes, i finally stopped being a creep and just asked her.

 um...excuse me? where did you get your leopard print toms? 

neimans. only at neimans.  

eh. of course. i'm pretty sure she looked me up and down with a little bit of disgust while replying too. this city can be so snotty sometimes. what? i don't look good after being up all night with a sick baby while i chug a latte waiting for her prescription to be ready across the street? my plain red toms bought from nordstroms aren't good enough? or are you making that face because my normally adorable baby now looks like someone has been repeatedly pinching her eyeballs. or worse yet, Scarlett actually looks like she just went through an emotional break-up and has been crying for two days straight. c'mon ladies, you know that look. poor baby, saddest eyes ever. can i buy large black sunglasses for my 11 month old? is she too young for intensive eye cream? 

time to get out of here! leopard print toms lady wasn't the only one giving me weird looks taking my baby out in public like that. 

quickly, we were back home safe and quarantined. 

i immediately, well, not immediately. first i gave some tlc and rx eye drops to the sick babe. but once she was down for a nap, i immediately went to neimanmarcus.com with excitement as i searched for leopard print toms. obviously i was going to buy them! despite the fear that they would be overpriced, i rationalized to myself that i needed a new pair of toms anyways, and i had been looking for a new pair of leopard print flats since my old ones were worn out, so, boom! two birds! worth whatever they would...what? 

where are they? why can't i find them? plenty of other toms at neimans, but no leopard print. quickly do a large google search, and yes! there they are on shopstyle.com. but why is it just taking me back to neimans website? ok, that's ok, i think i've found them. yes! here they are...

where i read the sad sad words: 

SOLD OUT!! 

crushed. 

well, i'm not giving up just yet. i will continue to search and hope that neimans will come out with another supply. if you have any leads, digame immediamente!! 

in the meantime, they have baby toms. so i guess i'll just have to buy some for baby S instead. 

black is the new black

my sister, as only a sister can say: um, i don't mean to be rude, but you kinda dress goth now

me: what?! I thought i was dressing classic and chic!

well, i don't have the black swan eye make-up {we all know its a fancy day when i put on mascara} but, it is true that my new colors are black and black. the new style has trifold functionality. one part covering 10 extra post baby pounds. one part ease of not having to decide what clothes will match. black matches with everything! and one part having a neuroses about not clashing with Scarlett. call me crazy, but i just don't like when she is wearing pastel floral and i am wearing navy blue stripes. what? i would never dress her in pastel floral and i don't even own navy blue stripes.

point being, i'm loving my new all black wardrobe and i don't think its overly dark. its easy, slimming, classy and i somehow look a little dressier while still basically wearing the comfort equivalent of yoga pants and a zip-up. i previously thought buying plain black was boring, but now my tune has changed to you can never have too many black sweaters! match with some leggings or dark denim and, boom, its an outfit! add some accessories and colorful flats to spice it up, or stay simple and understated. either way, for the post prego mamma, black is the new black.
